The number is so high and the spreading range is so vast that is literally impossible to visit all the lakes of Hyderabad in one day. But never the less the top chartbusters lakes in Hyderabad are definitely must visit for the tourists and visitors.
Hussain Sagar
People say a man is not how he looks but rather how his heart is. The heart of the heritage city of India is actually the 'Heart of the World'. Husain Sagar, the world's largest heart-shaped mark is one of the main tourist attractions of Hyderabad. A 5.7 square kilometres water body fed by River Musi is located at the prime centre location of the city of Nawabs. A large monolithic statue of the Gautama Buddha is what increases the glory of the lake accompanied by the biggest and largest tricolor of India. Hussain Sagar is the prime point which divides the twin cities Hyderabad and Secunderabad. A must visit for any person visiting Hyderabad for the first time. The Buddha statue and the Indian tricolor get an extra edge with the rays of setting sun. The view is truly beautiful.
Osman Sagar
Benjamin Franklin once said, "When the well is dry, we will know the worth of water". Likewise, Hyderabad can't be described without mentioning the lifesaver, the main water supply the Osman Sagar. Popularly known as Gandipet this 46 square kilometre mini-sea becomes a very major attraction in the season of monsoon with its reservoir filled to the brim and water parks at its best. The huge water body is spread beside the Shankarpalli-Mokila road and numerous Ganesh idol emersion is seen here at the time of Ganesh Chaturthi, which is quite a big show.
Saroornagar Lake
Saroornagar Lake is one of the oldest man-made lakes in Hyderabad. Right from the sixteenth century, once a home of many migratory birds became completely destroyed with the increasing pollution. But in recent past with different activities of lake improvement, the birds have started coming back.
Ameenpur Lake
The birdwatcher's delight of Hyderabad which even got the tag of Biodiversity Heritage Site of India. Ameernpur lake is actually a heaven for the ornithologists with a presence of around 171 migratory and residing species of birds. Though increasing pollution and destruction of the food chain is cutting down the number of winged mates, still few recent initiatives are taken for the betterment of the lake's health.
Fox Sagar Lake
A very fishy destination we much say. The lake is very famous for fishing and a perfect destination for family picnics and hangouts. The paradise for the birdwatchers' in Hyderabad is continued to the famous Fox Sagar Lake, popularly known as Jeedimetla Cheruvu or Kolla Cheruvu. A 2 square kilometre water body is home to flamingos, yellow-billed storks, ospreys, grey herons, great cormorants, kingfishers, baya weavers, garganeys and what not. Shoot them but with your camera.
Shamirpet Lake
A pretty famous artificial lake present in Secunderabad which has become a good attraction as picnics and family get together destination. The lake is accompanied by a well-maintained Government resort and for the last few years, numerous movies are shot here.
Many lakes of the city are badly affected due to the water pollution, but some recent Government initiatives and people awareness have been solving the issue at a good pace. While environmentalists say that minor encroachments and stormwater drains by the lower rungs of society are contributing to the shrinking of the water bodies, it is nothing in comparison to the corporations.
Lakes have always served to be the recreational spots for every resident of Hyderabad. Among the sky-rise infrastructural developments, the beautiful and scintillating lakes still attract a lot of attention and charm where both tourists and the residents of Hyderabad look forward to spending quality life to get a break from their busy and fast-track lives.
