Food from the Land of Dada
Food from the Land of Dada, the City of Joy, Kolkata...!!
Known for its Culture, Tradition, Rabindar Sangeet and Street Food, Kolkata is the personification of beauty at its best. Even though Kolkata is famous for its sweets but the appetizing and heavenly taste of street food is so mouth-watering that you can’t decide your love for sweetening Kolkata or aromatic Kolkata.
Let’s quickly take you through the top 5 street food of Kolkata.
Phucka in Bengal, Panipuri in South and Gol Gappas in North. It has been the most loved street food of Kolkata. The essence of the masalas and freshness of lemons used is so appealing that any passerby gets allured to taste the same. One of the best Phucka stalls is in Ram Mandir, Girish Park.
Ghugni is made of dry peas, which are boiled and garnished with onions & tomatoes. It has a tangy taste which is liked by most of the folks. The one near Shubha Bazar metro station serves the best in North Kolkata.
Singara & Tea has always been the most widely eaten snacks in Kolkata, especially during winters. Even though this is the most common snack item eaten in all other parts of India, but the one we get in Kolkata is beyond comparison. The most famous Singaras & Tea are served by “Pandey ji” who sits near Ram Mandir, Girish Park. Masala Tea is served in an Earthen Pot (handi) with Singaras.
Club Kachori & Aloo Dum has been my all time favorite Sunday Brunch. Small size Kachoris (made of special flour) are served with chana dal aloodum curry. “Sharma’s” near Ballygung Phari petrol pump serves the best club kachoris.
Rolls which are also called Kathi Rolls were first originated in Kolkata. Be it, a normal Egg Roll or Egg-Chicken Roll, it’s widely sold in all the parts of Kolkata. “Zeshaan” near Kaligath metro station, Rashbehari Avenue is always crowded as it serves the best rolls in South Kolkata.
If you are planning to visit Kolkata on your next vacation, do try the above-mentioned street food. You would surely take back some scrumptious memories with you back to your hometown.
