How You Can Spend 24 Hours in Chandigarh - The City Beautiful
Just 24 hours… Noooo…. I want more… This was my reaction when I was asked to spend a day in Chandigarh. And I guess anybody who once had the chance to visit or live in Chandigarh would agree with me that we had the times of our lives.
To cut short (though I can go on and on…) on my feelings for this city, in simple and sweet words- A notch above from other places.
This soft corner for Chandigarh is inherited from my dad since he was an avid traveler to this fun city. Narrating his jawani ke times and tales about his cricket days is what made me curious about this place.
It’s anybody’s cup of tea to reach Chandigarh and at least spend a day here. You might run out of time but you will make an enduring relationship with this fun city.
The course of action goes like this….
Morning
Get the feel of the city by wandering along the Sukhna Lake and listen to the rhythmic steps of joggers and walkers.
Though I’m not a serious jogger or walker I can get lost in the breezy fresh air and enjoy the mountains’ reflection in the water. You’ll feel a sense of belonging while all your senses come alive and get ready for the hectic day ahead.
Embark your day by paying a visit to the Sai Dhaam in sector 29 and feel your feet caress the white marble and rejuvenate your mind with the fragrant rose petals.
While you sweat out those extra calories, it’s time to make up for that lost energy (Duhhh…. I know kya fayda tha walk ka). And that energy can be gained back only by feasting on those big pooris at the Panjab University, Amritsari kulcha at the Kulcha Hub, butter Paranthas of Gurbax Dhaba and that sensible cup of tea.
And if you are conscious about those extra kilos, you can dig in on the English breakfast like pancakes at the Nik Baker’s, Egg Burger at McDonalds or sandwiches at Boston Bites with the warming cup of coffee.
Noon
This time of day makes you inactive or sluggish since most of the people feel drowsy. Also, it’s hard to even pass this time. I have some nuclear options and let’s see what we can do. Firstly, if you are ready, willing and able, you can visit the Le Corbusier Center in sector 19B to have an insight as to how this marvellous creation came into being.
Secondly, if that sounds an age-old affair, we have our next option which is the bowling alley-The Blu-O. Famous amongst the masses, it’s a bowl over option. Take joy in bowling as an Ice Breaker for your first date (Shhhh…In secret… You should keep your cards close) and have a great conversation.
Thirdly, if you want to go a little aboard, and have spring in your steps, you can’t deny the adventurous games. Paintball has recently gained its popularity owing to its nature and a thrilling experience. Will this not only make your human senses rise and shine but leave you energetic and lively. To sum few places, refer to the paintball games article on the site.
Lastly, if you want to play safe and sound, we have always got the options of movies. Movies are a great stress buster as they take you through the fantasy world, yet the multiplexes leave no stone unturned to help you have a relaxing and a royal experience. Get your tickets at the nearest multiplexes like Wave, PVR and let the magic happen.
Evening
The mid-day acted as energy drain and we still need to keep up with time as a major part of the day has to be felt. The city allows the nature do the needful as the setting sun peeps through the leaves, the leaves, the wind, the rays playing hide-n-seek lit up the roads, the clouds up in the sky descend and hover on the mountain peaks like the icing on the cake and the rustling of leaves persuade you to fall in love. Wasn’t that amazing…? I told ya’ll... 24 hours isn’t enough…
With nature at its best, how can you stay at home and not be in driving seat? C’mon, you ought to experience this captivating sight. I would suggest you ride rather than driving because the car windshield would limit the view. Never the less, if you crazy driving, grab those keys and get rolling on the Gedi route (Sector8-9-10).
The buttery roads would effortlessly turn your wheels towards the Himalayan Expressway where the roads stretch endlessly and your thoughts fly high.
While you take a U-turn and come back to your senses and the city, don’t miss the glitter and gleam of the lights that jewel up the mountains. Roll down those windows and smell the fresh air like never before (better slow down or stop for safety…as you still have the nightlife calling you).
Not to forget, we have got the world-class malls in the city. You can shop, hop, eat, dance, play as Elante Mall, VR Punjab (previously known as North country mall) are synonymous for barrels of fun.
Furthermore, stop by the Sector 17 and feast your eyes and ears with the alluring Laser Light Show.
Night
You can’t miss the nightlife of Chandigarh as it houses some of the best pubs and clubs. The nightlife is woven between the Live Bands and the DJ’s. From discotheques and breweries to rooftops hideaways, Chandigarh offers too much on your plate. Playground, Xtreme Sports Bar, Upstairs, Peddlers, Satva are the major joints where people party on.
Other than this, if you are not a party animal, you can enjoy being with yourself at the Garden of Silence. It is also known as Buddha Peace Park. The seated Buddha reminds you to stand still for a moment and embrace the beauty around you. The concentric stairways and evening illuminations add panache to this niche that cleaves to one’s romantic getaways.
Apart from all this, there is this universal option to feed yourself on the ambrosial cuisines presented in front of you. You can opt for cafes, fine dines, casual dining, street food, outdoor cafes etc. anything that appears palatable. Our site has already made its mark in the foodie section where you have a number of options to choose from.
Even though much has been covered, however, I still feel a lot more could be felt and conceived in your own sweet way. Spend a weekend at Chandigarh and plan some these fun activities with your gang.
It's not about the time allotted to you for a particular thing, it’s about how you come alive and make the most out of it.
Be free, be happy coz you've got a single day to mingle with the city...
