No Surprises For Guessing! Officially, India Is The Most Dangerous Country For Women As Per This Survey.
So, I was sitting through a usual workday in office when suddenly I stumbled upon this survey by Thomson Reuters that declared India The Most Dangerous Country In The World. First thought as a girl in my mind, Really? What’s News In it? We already know that and it doesn't shock us!
Folks! Countrymen! It’s officially time to slow clap. In a country that worships Goddess Durga, we have failed to protect even little girls from atrocities. If our law can’t give the women in our country the space to breathe freely without her being fearful of being raped, murdered or molested, then we, as a nation, have failed miserably.
According to Thomson Reuters:
In this survey, 193 United Nations member countries from the world have been ranked on the basis of which the below mentioned were the “Most Dangerous For Women and the Worst for Healthcare, Economic Resources, Traditional Practices, Sexual and Non-Sexual Abuse, and Human Trafficking.”
Here Are The Ranked Nations (Get Ready To Hang Your Head in Shame Indians!)
- India
- Afghanistan
- Syria
- Somalia
- Saudi Arabia
- Pakistan
- Democratic Republic of Congo
- Yemen
- Nigeria
- United States
The irony of this whole scenario is that we have surpassed all those nations which have a reputation for not letting women have any rights whatsoever. India, one of the largest democracy in the world can't even beat smaller nations when it comes to women safety. Something that I, as a female, can’t fathom is that in a place I call home, I am no longer safe. In the last survey in 2011, India was ranked 4th. In the 2018 survey, this improvement in ranking is something that should make us feel ashamed of ourselves. Ashamed to the core of the fact that we can’t protect our wives, mothers, sisters, friends, daughters and most of all we have failed them on every occasion. Be it Kathua case, Nirbhaya or any other issue that is related to women’s safety.
As per Thomson Reuters, “India tops the list, with levels of violence against women still running high, more than five years after the rape and murder of a student on a bus in Delhi sparked national outrage and government pledges to tackle the issue.
India ranked as the most dangerous on three issues – the risks women face from sexual violence and harassment, from cultural and traditional practices, and from human trafficking including forced labour, sex slavery, and domestic servitude.”
Now, I have only one question to all the Men in our dear country, where is it that women need to go to actually find a safe haven for themselves?
