Know It All: Field of Dreams-Indoor stadium In Ludhiana
Another feather in the cap, Ludhiana is brimming with confidence pertaining to its name the world-class fully air-conditioned indoor stadium. The Superdome like never before is the largest in Punjab with state of the art facilities. A wave of happiness has engulfed the sportsmen hoping for new avenues in the sports field.

Brief Insight before its coming to light
The design laid-15 years ago came into the existence and is well established as the first biggest centrally air-conditioned indoor stadium, in Punjab. This coliseum-like any other construction site faced a lot of controversies and missed deadlines due to the alleged misutilization of funds. The construction was supposed to be done at a cost of Rs20 crore, that had almost tripled. Never the less, it has come into being.
Blueprint – Design and Layout
*Spread in 3.2 acres of land the fully air-conditioned Indoor Stadium has 1,100 square meters sports arena with a seating capacity of 4000 people.
*It has a gymnasium developed in 1500 square meters area.
*It also has coach lounges and changing rooms. At one time around 250-300 vehicles can be parked in the stadium.
*The stadium has 74 commercial shops along with 25000 square feet club area. There is also a provision of restaurant and food court area (75000 square feet), library (3000 square feet) and a function hall (3000 square feet) etc.
*State of the art firefighting system has been installed for avoiding any untoward incident.
Utilization for various purposes
The stadium -constructed with the standard of Olympic Games - will entertain residents with sports and musical concerts. And though officials have maintained that the stadium would be utilized only for hosting events, different representatives of different associations like shooting, basketball, wrestling, swimming, badminton have been hoping that they would get space for practice in the premises.
Sukhbir Badal’s Inauguration and future endeavours
The Indoor stadium at Pakhowal Road and ultra-modern sports park in Sarabha village were inaugurated by the then Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal last year.
Badal, after inaugurating the indoor stadium, said: “I came to know about the project which was hanging fire and decided to take it upon a priority and we completed the project in 2.5 years,” he said.
While inaugurating the ultra-modern sports park at Sarabha village and visiting another such park at Dhaipai village, which was developed at the initiative of Dakha MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali, the Deputy CM appreciated the efforts of Ayali for creating sports infrastructure including 70 sports parks and 16 basketball grounds in Dakha constituency.
Indoor Stadium
Here in the north where the weather is at extreme hot and cold, indoor stadiums and arenas are becoming a popular choice for sports programs. An indoor stadium not only offers an air-conditioned space for games and recreation, but can also serve as a great space for concerts, ceremonies (like graduations), and other events that require a great amount of space and seating.
