Movie Review: Mubarakan
After giving memorable powerhouses like Welcome, Singh is King and No Problem, Anees Bazmee is back with a bang. The mediocre success of Thank You was enough to make people start doubting this amazing director who generated the funniest of films. Now he's come back in scintillating form for what might just be the funniest film of this year.
Let me get this straight. If you're expecting Mubarakan to be an intellectual sort of funny, then don't watch it. You need to leave your brains behind for this one. With really good writing and punches, clean and entertaining jokes that'll leave you in splits throughout the course of the film, there isn't a dull moment here. The movie casts Arjun Kapoor in a double role who shines in both characters, coming as a welcome change after his disastrous outing in Half Girlfriend. Anil Kapoor adds meaning to his nickname of the Benjamin Button of Bollywood since the veteran looks much younger than his actual age. Ileana D' Cruz and Athiah Shetty add glamor to a film that has pretty much the most innovative laughs in a long time.
Though the film takes a while to gain momentum, when it does, Mubarakan proves to be a Juggernaut of hilarity. It's like there's no stopping it. The first half pretty much shows that despite the film might have a ludicrous plot, its laughs come to the rescue. And in this movie, they don't need much rescuing.
Arjun as Karan and Charan delivers an absolute power packed performance, using the case of mistaken identity to his advantage. If you needed any other reason to watch the film other than the fact that it has the most loveable gags in a long time, then it's him.
All in all, you need to watch this. Old, young, intellectual, it doesn't matter. You'd surely be losing out on something great if you miss this movie.
Verdict: Hit
