Nokia 3310 makes a comeback!
In a classic case of 'blast from the past', the old-school phone - Nokia 3310, has officially returned with retro looks, snake game, and other capabilities. The phone is produced by new mobile firm HMD Global, which licensed the Nokia brand last year. Originally launched 17 years ago, the phone has lost none of the charm and identity. The president of HMD, Florian Seiche, says the daily, "This is what consumers have been asking us for, and so we decided that we’d just do it and have some fun with it. That’s the unique opportunity we have here at HMD with the Nokia brand." The new version of the handset has been launched with added features than its predecessor for its hardcore fans. The chief product officer of HMD Global, Juho Sarvika says "Nokia phones stir real emotions. For the Nokia 3310, we just couldn’t resist. We wanted to reward loyal Nokia phone fans and make a statement that rich heritage, innovation, and modern design can go hand-in-hand.” The model has been relaunched at the Mobile World, with a handful of modern tweaks and is a fresh look to the classic.
The phone that has been known as the toughest and indestructible object in the universe has come back in funky vibrant colors with significantly slimmer frame and an enlarged 2.4-inch screen with QVGA color display. It also has the polarize layer on the top of the glass which makes the screen more legible under the direct sunlight. The new model is 12.8mm thick and weighs 79.6g, as opposed to 22mm and 133g. Nokia has altered the phone’s main keys with the design that accentuates their and phone's roundness.
The incredibly durable phone this time has a basic 2-megapixel camera with flash on the rear, as well as a LED flash that can be used as a torch. The original Nokia 3310 was a reliable phone in terms of battery life, but this time it is 10X more reliable than what the original offered. The resurrected model offers 22 hours of talk-time and a month of standby time between charges. The phone has 16MB internal storage with an option of adding a microSD card of up to 32GB. The new handset uses the 2G connection and has the custom designed user interface. Thus, users will be able to surf the web via the Opera Mini browser. The phone charges via a microUSB port and also has a headphone jack. FM radio, MP3 player, and the favorite Snake comes preloaded. The phone will be available in glossy red and yellow color options, as well as the familiar gray and dark blue matte schemes with single-SIM and dual-SIM options. The new Nokia 3310 hits the market in Quarter 2, and HMD Global says it "will retail at an average global retail price" of Euros 49.
