This is exactly why there has been a whole lot of research and studying going into history. People are studying civilizations, modern history and everything related to the past of mankind to get an idea of what the future has in store for us. This explains the importance that history holds in our lives.

While some people make a career in history, there are some that just admire the beauty of historical remains. One can call them history buffs. Normal malls, parks, clubs, and cinema halls do not appeal to them. What their eyes constantly seek is someplace with even a little bit of history to it. If you are one of these people then Bangalore is one of the cities for you since it has quite a number of historical places.

Bangalore Palace

Rev. J Garrett was the proud owner of this magnificent palace but later sold it to the 10th Maharaja of the Wodeyar dynasty, Maharaja Chamarajendra Wodeyar. Constructed in 1878, the palace’s interiors as well as the exteriors, both are a sight to behold. Tudor style architecture beautifully blends with Victorian furniture to create what is nothing less than magic.

Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace

The Tiger of Mysore had this palace constructed for himself during his reign. Made entirely of teak, this palace has beautiful carvings on its walls and has pillars and balconies. It also served as the court of Tipu Sultan to conduct important matters.

St. Mary’s Basilica

This beautiful church was constructed by Rev. Fr. Kleiner in 1875 and was consecrated in 1882. The gothic architecture of the church and the cross-shaped design give a very grand look to the church. The devotees seek the blessings of Mother Mary here and on 8th September (the date of the church’s consecration) enjoy the annual fest held here.

State Central Library

Built in the memory of the Diwan of Mysore, Diwan Sir, Sheshadri Iyer, the construction of this spectacular library began in 1903. However, the library as opened only in the year 1915. Due to its red color, the library stands out and captures attention instantly. It is not just a paradise for history buffs but for bibliophiles too since it houses around 2,40,903 books.

Bangalore Fort

This mud and stone fort has gone through a lot of stages and survived a lot of wars one of them being the Third Mysore War. 1537 is the year when this fort was constructed. There is a cemetery, a school, and a church within the compound of this sprawling fort.
