Chandigarh's Proud Prodigy Urges Everybody To Take Part in Cleanliness Drives
Chandigarh; also commonly known as ‘the city beautiful’ has time and again been applauded as one of the cleanest and greenest cities in the country and this acknowledgment always filled the hearts of Chandigarhians with pride and delight.
A thoughtfully well-planned city located at an arm’s length to the scenic hills encourages impromptu getaways and instant escape from the hustle and bustle of the city lives, a city full of dreamy stream of trees running through every road along with picturesque parks and gardens at almost every nook and corner just adds to the whole idea of why Chandigarh is an extremely idealistic and a wonderful place to make a home in.
But sadly, unfortunately, for the horror of many, Chandigarh has lost its crowning glory and how! From being recognized as the 3rd cleanest city in the country last year, Chandigarh has trumped significantly to a shameful rank of 20 in the Swachh Survekeshan Survey and it has been a major low blow for all the formerly proud residents of the city. Swachh Survekeshan Survey is an extensive sanitation survey done annually to check the progress and impact of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government’s flagship programme Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched in 2014.
The startling and the unfavorable outcome of the survey has forced every concerned citizen of the city to put on their thinking caps and wonder what exactly transpired this deteriorating change in merely a year? How to backtrack our steps and undo what we have done causing such a massive drop in the ranks? And what further amends we can make to improvise and revamp the situation to redeem our city.
One such gravely concerned and conscious citizen of the society is Aagmandeep Bhatia, a 13-year-old child prodigy from Chandigarh itself, who is the founder of the ‘SwachhBharat.in’ a website launched with an attempt to spread the message of ‘Swachh Bharat’. An ardent admirer of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Aagmandeep purchased the domains www.swachhbharat.in on August 15, 2014 after listening to the PM’s speech on TV and that’s when it struck him that this could be an important slogan for future, so he worked on an idea that led him to create and develop a website on cleanliness drive.
After buying the domain, Aagmandeep got the website SwachhBharat.in up and running a month later in September with the help of professionals. He believes that with the help of the internet, anything is possible, so he started promoting Swachh Bharat Abhiyan through social networks and currently his web portal has 5,882 likes on its Facebook account.
Someone rightly said, ‘Every cloud has a silver lining’ and Aagmandeep is that silver lining for us. People like him are our ray of hope and beacon of light for a better and a progressive future, for a modern and a culturally advanced nation with its citizens walking in harmony towards triumphing the world.
