Looking for a colossal wreck of a movie? No need to look any further. Throughout the length of the poorly directed flick - The Black Prince, Satinder Sartaj tries but fails miserably in his portrayal of the titular character. Excessively long and monotonous to say the very least, the Black Prince turned out to be a massive disappointment for devoted fans who had high hopes from this film. Directed by Kavi Raz and starring Satinder Sartaj, Shabana Azmi and Amanda Root in lead roles, one had high expectations after watching the trailer of the film. But we cannot specify how mistimed and horrifically cliched this movie really is.

The film starts off by narrating about a prosperous kingdom of Punjab which is invaded by the British. Unfortunately, the prince at that time, barely five years of age is taken hostage by the British to their land, where he leads a life of comfort. Having no recollection of the past, Duleep Singh realizes as he grows older that there is a void in his heart which can never be completed. But does he act on instinct? Of course not. He continues to live his life of luxury, overlooking the fact that he might be from a separate family. Truly here, ignorance is bliss.

Does Sartaj look like the prince? No. Does Shabani Azmi strike a chord as her lost son's mother? To some extent, yes. But that's all there is to offer in this mundane venture. One thing needs to be handed to the makers of the film, and that's the fact that they have the best backdrops and locations. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking. Also, each time an important character dies, they'll give a cough. Not that that's related to the symptoms or anything. It's just there.

It's disheartening to see Shabana Azmi doing a film that fails so miserably. Can we give you a reason to watch it? No. It's just bundles and bundles.

Verdict- Flop
