Does hierarchy manage to persist in society even today? Does nepotism still create a rift between societies on the extremes that seem to drift further and further apart? Here to answer the question is the movie Toofan Singh, which aptly shows the flaws of a society so marred by corruption.

Based on the life of Shaheed Bhai Jugraj Singh Toofan, the film roped in singer turned actor Ranjit Bawa who fits the role to the extent that you can't differentiate whether he's acting anymore. The on-point dialogues, a stellar cast accompanied with heavyweights like Yashpal Sharma, just add to the number of reasons you need to hit the theatres and see this movie.

I've rarely wanted to whistle at dialogues or cinematography for that matter. Toofan Singh brought a welcome change to these habits, for I actually wanted to stand up and hoot on more than one occasion. The thing I liked most about the movie was the impeccable action. It pretty much belongs to the list of high budget flicks, and thankfully, the money has been put to good use.

Bhagal Singh put a lot into his cast, and that worked for the film as well. You can't expect a film, most of the time, to ride solely on action, dialogue, and acting. Toofan Singh does just that.

With Bawa portraying the titular character to the extent that he reflected his very essence, Yashpal Sharma played the role of the police officer with a level of finesse I'm not accustomed to.

What else works for the film is the apt descriptions and the wonderful cast. On one side, the protagonist manages to battle corruption, crime, and brutality, while on the other, he stands for the legacy of Punjabi folklore. Toofan Singh basically is a Messiah who stands for true character, honor, and valor, as he does for the film.

Verdict- Hit
